The third project to be realised as part of SMFA’s master plan for Investigator College’s campuses at Victor Harbor and Goolwa, the Senior School Building forms the centrepiece of Victor Harbor's Senior Campus.
The new two-storey building accommodates the entire senior student body and sets the tone for an open learning environment based on collaboration, creativity, integration and communication.
Intentionally set away from the rest of the campus to provide the new School with its own identity and public interface, a connection to the remaining campus was maintained visually through a vast northern aspect, and through integrated urban and landscape design.
The programmatic requirements of the College are satisfied by a logical, efficient and flexible floorplan. The building employs passive design principles including sun shading, natural ventilation, a landscaped wetland retention area to manage stormwater, designed to be hard-wearing and adaptable.
Through the new addition to the campus, students and staff have been provided with dynamic, flexible spaces of varying sizes that can be adapted to large open common areas or more intimate learning spaces, which in turn also accommodates the anticipated future growth of the School.
